Class 6
Chapter 1 Class 6 - Patterns in Mathematics (Ganit Prakash)

Patterns are things that repeat or follow a rule.

In math, a pattern is when something happens again and again, in the same way. Like:

  • πŸŸ₯🟩πŸŸ₯🟩πŸŸ₯🟩 → red, green, red, green...
  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 → goes up by 1 each time
  • 2, 4, 6, 8 → skip counting by 2

We use patterns to:

  • Predict what comes next πŸ“ˆ
  • Spot mistakes ❌
  • Solve puzzles 🧩

🟒 Types of Patterns

  1. Repeating Patterns : Shapes or numbers that repeat in the same order.
    Example: πŸ”·πŸ”ΆπŸ”·πŸ”ΆπŸ”·...
  2. Growing Patterns : Each step gets bigger or smaller.
    Example: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16...
  3. Number Patterns : Numbers that follow a rule.
    Example: 5, 10, 15, 20 (add 5 each time)

πŸŽ‰ In Short…

Patterns help us make sense of what comes next in shapes, numbers, and ideas!
