According to the World Trade Organization, Tourism is defined as a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon that entails the movement of people to countries or places outside t heir usual environment for personal or business/professional purposes.  

Tourism is considered a trade:

  1. The tourism industry directly engaged more than 15 million people.
  2. Foreign tourists come to India for a variety of reasons, including heritage tourism, ecotourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, medical tourism, and business travel.
  3. Arrivals of foreign tourists to the country bring i n 21,828 crores in foreign exchange. 
  4. Tourism also encourages national integration and supports local handicrafts and cultural activities
  5. It also contributes to the advancement of international awareness of our culture and heritage.
