INTRODUCTION
-

   Poverty means

   hunger and lack of shelter.

   Poverty also means a

lack of clean water and sanitation facilities.

It also means a lack of a regular job at a minimum decent level.

 -

One of the most difficult challenges

faced by independent India is Poverty

. Poverty trends in India and the world are illustrated through the

   concept of the poverty line.

 -

   Every fourth person

   in India is

   poor.

This means, roughly 270 million (or 27 crores) people in India live in poverty from 2011-12.

 - This also means India has the most significant single concentration of the poor globally. This illustrates the seriousness of the challenge.
