They were expected to study, teach, and preserve the Vedas, which were the sacred texts of Hinduism. They also performed religious ceremonies and sacrifices.

: They were the warriors and rulers who fought wars and administered the state. Their task was to protect the people and uphold justice.

Vaishyas
: They were the traders and farmers who engaged in trade and agriculture. They were skilled in business and economics.
- Shudras : They were the workers and servants who served the other three varnas. They worked as artisans, craftsmen, carpenters, blacksmiths, weavers, potters, etc.
