Meteors are small pieces of rock or metal that come from space and enter the Earth’s atmosphere . They are also called shooting stars or falling stars because they look like bright streaks of light in the sky. Meteors are very fast and can travel at speeds of up to 72 kilometers per second.

Meteors are usually very small, ranging from the size of a grain of sand to a pebble. Most of them burn up completely in the atmosphere because of the friction and heat . Sometimes, a larger piece of meteor can survive the atmosphere and reach the ground. This is called a meteorite . Meteorites can be very valuable because they contain rare minerals and information about the solar system.
