  • (a) - A: “A” is used with unspecified things and not when objects are specified. So, the correct word is ‘the’.
  • (b) - Lay: “Lay” is used with simple present tense and not with present perfect tense . So, the correct word is ‘laid’ .
  • (c) - Or: “Or” is used when out of two given options, one has to be selected and not when 2 events can occur simultaneously. So, the correct word is ‘and’ .
  • (d) - In: “In” is used when one object lies within the other and not when it is situated above. So, the correct word is ‘on’.
  • (e) - These: “These” is used with plural subject and not singular. So, the correct word is ‘this’.
  • (f) - Connecting: “Connecting” is used in the continuous tense and not in the simple tense. So, the correct word is ‘connected’.
  • (g) - A: “A” is used with consonants and not vowels . So, the correct word is ‘an’ .
  • (h) - Of: “Of” is used when an object belongs to someone and not when we are talking about shutting down something. So, the correct word is ‘off’ .

Thus the correct paragraph is

Electricity is supplied to a house through cables. In cities,  the cables are usually laid underground, but in towns and villages they may be carried on poles. Inside the house this cable is connected to a main switch. In an emergency, the power can be turned off from the mains.
