With the help of Table 4.1, find out the mass number of oxygen and sulphur atom

Answer

(i) Oxygen atom

Number of protons = 8

Number of neutrons = 8

Mass number = Number of protons + Number of neutrons

                        = 8 + 8

                        = 16

Therefore, the mass number of an oxygen atom = 16

(ii) Sulphur atom

Number of protons = 16

Number of neutrons = 16

Mass number = Number of protons + Number of neutrons

                        = 16 + 16

                        = 32

Therefore, the mass number of a sulphur atom = 32
