Why Learn This With Teachoo?

Class 12 Chemistry explains how substances behave, react and transform at the molecular level. It combines numerical problem-solving, chemical theory, named reactions, structures, equations and real-life applications. Since Chemistry is an important subject in the CBSE Class 12 board examination and entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE Main and JEE Advanced, students need both conceptual clarity and regular question practice.

Teachoo’s Class 12 Chemistry section helps students study the complete NCERT and CBSE syllabus in a simple, structured and exam-oriented manner. Students can learn concepts, revise important formulas and reactions, solve NCERT questions and practise different types of examination questions. Resources include step-by-step NCERT solutions, notes, solved numericals, practice questions, MCQs, case-based questions, sample papers and video lessons.

The objective is not to make students memorise hundreds of disconnected facts. Each chapter is explained by connecting the new topic with concepts already studied in Class 11. This makes difficult areas such as electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, coordination compounds and organic conversions easier to understand and retain.

What is covered in Class 12 Chemistry?

The Class 12 Chemistry syllabus contains physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry.

In physical chemistry, students study solutions, electrochemical processes and the rates of chemical reactions. These chapters involve formulas, graphs, calculations and the interpretation of experimental data.

In inorganic chemistry, students study transition elements, inner-transition elements and coordination compounds. Electronic configuration, oxidation states, colour, magnetic properties and chemical behaviour are important in these chapters.

In organic chemistry, students study halo compounds, alcohols, phenols, ethers, carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids, amines and biomolecules. Students learn how functional groups affect the properties and reactions of organic compounds.

Class 12 Chemistry chapters covered on Teachoo

Chapter 1 – Solutions

The Solutions chapter deals with homogeneous mixtures and the ways in which their composition can be expressed. Students learn about types of solutions, concentration terms, solubility, vapour pressure and Raoult’s law.

The chapter also covers ideal and non-ideal solutions, colligative properties, elevation in boiling point, depression in freezing point, osmotic pressure and abnormal molar mass. Detailed numericals help students convert between molarity, molality, mole fraction and mass percentage and select the correct formula for each question.

Chapter 2 – Electrochemistry

Electrochemistry studies the relationship between chemical reactions and electrical energy. Students learn about electrochemical cells, galvanic cells, electrolytic cells, electrode potential, standard electrode potential and cell notation.

Important topics include the Nernst equation, Gibbs energy of cell reactions, equilibrium constant, conductivity, molar conductivity, Kohlrausch’s law, electrolysis, batteries, fuel cells and corrosion. Step-by-step solutions explain sign conventions, units and calculations involving cell potential and conductivity.

Chapter 3 – Chemical Kinetics

Chemical Kinetics explains how quickly a chemical reaction occurs and which factors affect its rate. Students study average rate, instantaneous rate, rate law, rate constant, order of reaction and molecularity.

The chapter includes integrated rate equations for zero-order and first-order reactions, half-life, collision theory, activation energy and the Arrhenius equation. Graphs and solved numericals help students identify reaction order and calculate rate constants, concentration, time and activation energy.

Chapter 4 – The d- and f-Block Elements

This chapter examines transition elements and inner-transition elements. Students connect electronic configuration with oxidation states, atomic and ionic sizes, ionisation enthalpy, colour, magnetic behaviour, catalytic properties and the formation of complex compounds.

The chapter also covers important compounds such as potassium dichromate and potassium permanganate, along with lanthanoids, actinoids and lanthanoid contraction. Comparative tables make important trends and exceptions easier to revise.

Chapter 5 – Coordination Compounds

Coordination Compounds introduces central metal atoms or ions surrounded by molecules or ions called ligands. Students learn Werner’s theory, coordination entities, coordination number, oxidation number and IUPAC nomenclature.

Other important topics include isomerism, bonding in coordination compounds, valence bond theory, crystal field theory, colour, magnetic properties and stability. Structural examples help students name complexes, determine hybridisation, predict geometry and identify different types of isomerism.

Chapter 6 – Haloalkanes and Haloarenes

Haloalkanes and Haloarenes are organic compounds containing halogen atoms. Students study their classification, nomenclature, nature of the carbon-halogen bond, preparation methods, physical properties and chemical reactions.

The chapter covers nucleophilic substitution mechanisms, elimination reactions, reactions with metals and the difference between haloalkanes and haloarenes. Polyhalogen compounds and their environmental effects are also discussed. Reaction maps help students connect reagents, conditions and products.

Chapter 7 – Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers

This chapter explores organic compounds containing oxygen. Students learn the nomenclature, preparation, physical properties and chemical reactions of alcohols, phenols and ethers.

Important concepts include the acidic nature of alcohols and phenols, dehydration, oxidation, esterification, Williamson ether synthesis, Kolbe’s reaction and the Reimer–Tiemann reaction. Students also learn how the structure of a compound affects its acidity, boiling point, solubility and reactivity.

Chapter 8 – Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids

Aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids contain important carbonyl functional groups. The chapter covers their nomenclature, preparation, physical properties and chemical reactions.

Students study nucleophilic addition, oxidation, reduction, aldol condensation, Cannizzaro reaction, haloform reaction and reactions of carboxylic acids. Chemical tests such as Tollens’ test and Fehling’s test are used to distinguish between compounds. Conversion-based questions are explained through logical reaction sequences.

Chapter 9 – Amines

Amines are organic derivatives of ammonia. Students study their classification, structure, nomenclature, preparation and physical properties. The chapter explains the basic character of amines and the factors that affect their relative basic strength.

Important reactions include alkylation, acylation, carbylamine reaction, diazotisation, coupling reactions and reactions of diazonium salts. Students learn how to distinguish primary, secondary and tertiary amines and how aromatic diazonium salts are used in organic synthesis.

Chapter 10 – Biomolecules

Biomolecules connects chemistry with living organisms. Students study carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and nucleic acids.

The chapter explains the classification and structures of sugars, peptide bond formation, levels of protein structure, denaturation, enzyme action and the basic differences between DNA and RNA. Clear comparisons and diagrams help students understand biological molecules without relying only on memorisation.

How to prepare for Class 12 Chemistry

Study every chapter in three stages: learn the concept, solve NCERT questions and then attempt exam-style practice. Do not read solved answers passively. Cover the solution, solve the question yourself and compare each step afterward.

For physical chemistry, maintain a formula sheet and practise numericals regularly. For inorganic chemistry, make short comparison tables and revise directly from NCERT. For organic chemistry, write reactions and conversion pathways by hand. Finally, solve timed CBSE sample papers to improve speed, accuracy and answer presentation.

Teachoo helps students use one organised Class 12 Chemistry resource for learning concepts, completing NCERT, clearing doubts, practising questions and revising for examinations. Select a chapter above and begin with the topic you want to master.
