Morphology of Flowering Plants is the study of the external form and visible structures of flowering plants. An inflorescence is the arrangement of flowers on a floral axis. Racemose and cymose inflorescences differ in the growth of the main axis and the order in which flowers develop.

The flower section introduces symmetry, sexuality, bracts, insertion of floral whorls and the position of the ovary. Students study calyx, corolla, androecium and gynoecium, along with aestivation, cohesion and adhesion of stamens, placentation and ovule arrangement. Terms such as actinomorphic, zygomorphic, hypogynous, perigynous, epigynous, apocarpous and syncarpous are frequent examination targets.

Students then study fruits and seeds, including dicot and monocot seed structure. The final part explains how to prepare a semi-technical description using a floral formula and floral diagram. The current NCERT chapter describes important flowering-plant families through vegetative and floral characters, uses and examples.
