Which one is bigger?

By seeing, we can see that (CD)  is bigger than (AB) 

Let’s take another example

Which one is bigger ?

Some will say (AB) , some will say (CD) 

So, it is not obvious whether (AB ) is bigger or (CD) 

This is because we see differently and our judgment of length is not accurate.

So, we have to use another method.
