๐Ÿ’ฌ Think about it
  • We have separated homogeneous mixtures in three different ways.
  • But in a heterogeneous mixture the parts do not even mix properly — oil and water, sand and water.
  • Does that make separating them easier, or harder?
What is different about heterogeneous mixtures?
  • In a heterogeneous mixture the solute mixes non-uniformly with the solvent.
  • Oil and water, sand and water, iron filings and sulfur — in all of these the two parts never mix completely.
  • So the methods we use here are quite different from the ones in 5.3.
