Question 9 (i) I run a small dosa cart and my expenses are as follows: • Rent for the dosa cart is ₹5000 per day. • The cost of making one dosa (including all the ingredients and fuel) is ₹ 10. (i) If I can sell 100 dosas a day, what should be the selling price of my dosa to make a profit of ₹2000? Now, Profit = Revenue – Expenses Let’s calculate both Revenue and Expenses Expenses Expenses is rent and cost of making 100 dosas Thus, Expenses = Rent + Number of dosas × Cost of making 1 dosa = 5,000 + 100 × 10 = 5,000 + 1,000 = ₹ 6,000 Revenue Revenue is amount earned from selling 100 dosas Thus, Revenue = Number of dosas × Selling price 1 dosa = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa Now, given that Profit is ₹ 2,000 Putting values in Profit equation Profit = Revenue – Cost 2,000 = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa – 6,000 2,000 + 6,000 = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa 8,000 = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa 8000/100 = Selling Price of 1 dosa 80 = Selling Price of 1 dosa Selling Price of 1 dosa = ₹ 80 Question 9 (ii) I run a small dosa cart and my expenses are as follows: • Rent for the dosa cart is ₹5000 per day. • The cost of making one dosa (including all the ingredients and fuel) is ₹ 10. (ii) If my customers are willing to pay only ₹ 50 for a dosa, how many dosas should I aim to sell in a day to make a profit of ₹ 2000?Now, Profit = Revenue – Expenses Let’s calculate both Revenue and Expenses Expenses Expenses is rent and cost of making dosas Thus, Expenses = Rent + Number of dosas × Cost of making 1 dosa = 5,000 + Number of dosas × 10 Revenue Revenue is amount earned from selling dosas, given selling price is ₹ 50 Thus, Revenue = Number of dosas × Selling price 1 dosa = Number of dosas × 50 Now, given that Profit is ₹ 2,000 Putting values in Profit equation Profit = Revenue – Cost 2,000 = Number of dosas × 50 – (5,000 + Number of dosas × 10) 2,000 = Number of dosas × 50 – 5,000 – Number of dosas × 10 2,000 + 5,000 = Number of dosas × 50 – Number of dosas × 10 7,000 = Number of dosas × (50 – 10) 7,000 = Number of dosas × 40 (𝟕,𝟎𝟎𝟎)/𝟒𝟎 = Number of dosas 700/4 = Number of dosas 175 = Number of dosas Number of dosas = 175 Profit = Revenue – Cost 2,000 = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa – 6,000 2,000 + 6,000 = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa 8,000 = 100 × Selling Price of 1 dosa 8000/100 = Selling Price of 1 dosa 80 = Selling Price of 1 dosa Selling Price of 1 dosa = ₹ 80
