Question 7 A mother is 5 times her daughter’s age. In 6 years’ time, the mother will be 3 times her daughter’s age. How old is the daughter now?Let Age of Daughter = d Given that a mother is 5 times her daughter’s age So, Mother’s age = 5 × Daughter’s age = 5d Also, given that In 6 years’ time, the mother will be 3 times her daughter’s age Now, Age of daughter after 6 years = d + 6 Age of mother after 6 years = 5d + 6 And, Age of mother after 6 years = 3 × Age of daughter after 6 years 5d + 6 = 3 × (d + 6) 5d + 6 = 3d + 3 × 6 5d + 6 = 3d + 18 5d – 3d = 18 – 6 2d = 12 d = 12/2 d = 6 Thus, Age of Daughter now = 6 years
