Patterns, Properties, and a Pretty Procedure! If one number is a factor of the other (like 6 is a factor of 18 ), then: The HCF is the smaller number. The LCM is the larger number. Hence, for numbers 6 & 18 HCF if 6 LCM is 18 Now, let’s answer some questions If π‘š is a number (and the HCF), what could the other number be? The other number can be any multiple of π’Ž. Because, for π‘š to be the HCF, it must divide the other number fully. Example: If π‘š=5, the other number could be 10, 15, 20 etc. Question (b): If 7π‘˜ is a number (and the HCF), what could the other number be? The other number can be any multiple of πŸ•π’Œ. Example: 14π‘˜, 21π‘˜, 28π‘˜.
