Question 6 (a) The following figure shows a small portion of a long brick wall with patterns made using coloured bricks. Each wall continues this pattern throughout the wall. What is the ratio of grey bricks to coloured bricks? Try to give the ratios in their simplest form. (a)We calculate from one repeatable block Repeatable block is marked in the photo Thus, there are 9 grey bricks, and 6 red bricks Ratio of grey to red bricks is 9 : 6 Simplifying 9 : 6 = 9/6 = 3/2 = 3 : 2 Thus, required ratio is 3 : 2 Question 6 (b) The following figure shows a small portion of a long brick wall with patterns made using coloured bricks. Each wall continues this pattern throughout the wall. What is the ratio of grey bricks to coloured bricks? Try to give the ratios in their simplest form. (b)We calculate from one repeatable block Repeatable block is marked in the photo Number of yellow bricks = 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 12 Number of grey bricks = 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 16 Ratio of grey to yellow bricks is 16 : 12 Simplifying 16 : 12 = 16/12 = 4/3 = 4 : 3 Thus, required ratio is 4 : 3
