Example 1 Are the ratios 3 : 4 and 72 : 96 proportional? We convert both ratios into simplest form ∴ 3 : 4 :: 72 : 96 Thus, ratios 3 : 4 and 72 : 96 are proportional Ratio 3 : 4 = 3/4 It is already in simplest form = 3 : 4 Ratio 72 : 96 = 72/96 = 12/16 = 3/4 = 3 : 4
