Filling grid – Question 1 Page 133 Fill this 3 × 3 grid Let us name the remaining numbers Sum of 1st row 9 + c + f = 13 c + f = 13 – 9 c + f = 4 Since sum of 3rd column is greater Let c be bigger than b ∴ c = 1, f = 3 Sum of 1st column 9 + a + b = 24 a + b = 24 – 9 a + b = 15 Since sum of 3rd row is greater But, then we cannot get sum 18 for 3rd row ∴ a = 8 , b = 7 Sum of 3rd row 7 + e + 5 = 18 12 + e = 18 e = 18 – 12 e = 6 Sum of 2nd column 7 + e + 5 = 18 12 + e = 18 e = 18 – 12 e = 6 Sum of 2nd row 7 + 2 + g = 14 9 + g = 14 g = 14 – 9 g = 5 But, then we cannot have two boxes with same number 5 Thus, there is no solution to this grid
