Question 7 Draw a rectangle of size 12 units × 8 units. Draw another rectangle inside it, without touching the outer rectangle that occupies exactly half the area.Let the big rectangle of size 12 × 8 be blue And our new rectangle of size l × b be red Area of Blue Rectangle = 12 × 8 = 96 m2 Since Area of inner red rectangle is half as that of outer Blue Area of inner red rectangle = 𝟏/𝟐 × Area of Blue Rectangle = 1/2 × 96 = 48 m2 We need to find it’s dimensions of this rectangle. Thus, we need to find two numbers whose multiplication is 48 It could be 1 × 48, 2 × 24, 3 × 16, 4 × 12 6 × 8 Or 48 × 1, 24 × 2, 16 × 3 12 × 4, 8 × 6 Now, we have to fit the smaller red rectangle inside the blue rectangle. So, Length of required rectangle must be less than 12 m Breadth of required rectangle must be less than 8 m Thus, only 8 × 6 matches both criteria So, Required length of rectangle = 8 m Required breadth of rectangle = 6 m
