Question 1 - Page 146 Below is the house plan of Charan. It is in a rectangular plot. Look at the plan. What do you notice? Some of the measurements are given. (a) Find the missing measurements. (b) Find out the area of his house. When dimensions are given as Length × Width, the first number represents the length. Second number represents Width (or Breadth) So, if we are given rectangle 5 × 10, it means Length is 5 Breadth is 10 Now, let’s label our sides in the diagram Let’s find the missing measurements and area of his house Utility: Dimensions = 15 ft × 3 ft Area = 15 × 3 = 45 sq ft Small Bedroom: Dimensions = 15 ft × 12 ft Width = 𝐴𝑟𝑒𝑎/𝐿𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ=180/5 = 12 ft Garden: Dimensions = 20 ft × 3 ft Area = 20 × 3 = 60 sq ft Parking: Dimensions = 15 ft × 3 ft Area = 15 × 3 = 45 sq ft Hall: Hall is made up of 5 × 5 square, 5 × 12 rectangle and 15 × 12 rectangle So, Area of Hall = 5 × 5 + 5 × 12 + 15 × 12 = 265 sq ft Total Area of house: Dimensions = 35 ft × 30 ft Area = 35 × 30 = 1050 sq ft
