Why can’t we use circles instead of squares to find the area?We usually use a squared paper to calculate area If in the same box, we use circles instead of squares Then, our sheet would look like In each sheet, we tried to include as many circles of fixed area as possible. We could put maximum 42 and 44 circles on left and right respectively But, do you notice that both these figures have gaps. Due to this, we are unable to measure accurately. Let’s explore in more detail Why Area is Measured Using Squares Area is measured using squares because they are the most efficient and consistent shape for measuring a two-dimensional space. The main reasons are: No Gaps or Overlaps: Squares can be placed side-by-side to cover any flat surface completely without leaving any gaps Consistent Measurement: Using squares ensures that the measurement of an area is always the same, regardless of how they are arranged. The image shows that trying to fill a rectangle with circles can lead to different counts (42 vs. 44), proving their inconsistency. Simplicity: Squares have equal sides and right angles, which makes calculations straightforward and easy to understand.
