Square root Just like subtraction is the opposite of addition, Square root is the opposite of squaring Squaring Number = 3 Square of number = 3^2 = 9 ∴ Square root of 9 = 3 We write √𝟗=𝟑 Symbol of square root √𝟗 or √(𝟐&𝟗) Square root It is called root 9 or square root of 9 Square Roots Examples 12 = 1 22 = 4 32 = 9 42 = 16 52 = 25 62 = 36 72 = 49 82 = 64 92 = 81 102 = 100 √1 = 1 √4 = 2 √9 = 3 √16 = 4 √25 = 5 √36 = 6 √49 = 7 √64 = 8 √81 = 9 √100 = 10 Finding Square root of a number Let’s assume we want to find square root of 64 Now, we know that 82 = 8 × 8 = 64 But, also (–8)2 = 82 = 8 × 8 = 64 Thus, square root of 64 are 8 and –8 We write it as √𝟔𝟒=±𝟖 In this chapter, we will only focus on positive square root
