Hering Illusion The Illusion: The two red lines in the middle are straight and parallel, but the background lines, which look like sun rays, make them appear to bend outwards! What Causes It: Your brain is tricked by the background. It looks like you're moving into a tunnel, and in real life, straight lines would look bent like this as you got closer. Your brain applies this rule even when you're looking at a flat picture.
