Example 3 - Page 121 In Fig. 5.28, parallel lines l and m are intersected by the transversal t. If ∠3 is 50°, what is the measure of ∠6? Since lines l & m are parallel Corresponding angles are equal Therefore, ∠ 6 = ∠ 2 Thus, we find ∠ 2 by linear pair Now, on line t ∠ 2 & ∠ 3 are linear pair ∠ 2 + ∠ 3 = 180° ∠ 2 + 50°= 180° ∠ 2 = 180° – 50° ∠ 2 = 130° Now, By corresponding angle ∠ 6 = ∠ 2 ∴ ∠ 6 = 130° Note: We can directly find ∠ 6 also There is a property called Sum of the interior angles on the same side of the transversal always add up to 180°. ∴ ∠ 3 + ∠ 6 = 180°
