Cyber safety is the practice of using the internet and digital devices in a secure and responsible way. It involves protecting oneself and others from cyber threats, such as malware, phishing, fraud, cyberbullying, and identity theft. Here are some tips on how to ensure cyber safety while browsing the web, protecting your identity, and maintaining confidentiality:

  • Safely browsing the web:

      • Use a trusted browser and antivirus software and keep them updated regularly.
      • Avoid visiting unsecure or suspicious websites that do not have HTTPS or a padlock icon in the address bar.
      • Do not click on pop-ups, banners, or links that offer free or tempting products, services, or prizes.
      • Do not download or open attachments or files from unknown or unsolicited sources.
      • Use a VPN (virtual private network) or a proxy server to hide your IP address and encrypt your online traffic.
      • Clear your browser cache and cookies regularly to delete any tracking data that may be stored on your device.

  • Protecting your identity:

      • Use strong and unique passwords for your online accounts and devices and change them frequently.
      • Use two-factor authentication or biometric verification whenever possible.
      • Do not share your personal or financial information with anyone online, especially on social media, email, or chat platforms.
      • Review your privacy settings on social media and other online platforms and limit who can see your posts, photos, videos, and other personal data.
      • Monitor your online reputation and report any unauthorized or fraudulent use of your identity.

  • Maintaining confidentiality:

      • Do not disclose any sensitive or confidential information online, such as your passwords, PINs, bank details, medical records, etc.
      • Use encryption or password protection for your files and folders that contain confidential information.
      • Use secure cloud storage or backup services to store your confidential information online.
      • Do not use public or shared computers or Wi-Fi networks to access your confidential information online.
      • Be careful about what you share online and think twice before posting anything that may harm your reputation or privacy.
