    Can is used to show someone's ability.

    For example, I can dance

    (I have the ability to dance)

    Could is the past tense of can.

    For example, I could dance very well when I was a kid

    Could is also used to show a possibility.

    For example,

    If I had studied well, I could have passed the exam. 

    (There is a possibility of me passing the exam)
