- Osmosis is a process in which water moves from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration through a semipermeable membrane.
- A semipermeable membrane is a surface that allows the selected substances (in this case water ) to pass through it .
- This basically means that water will always flow from an area where there is more water to an area where there is less water .
- In cells, the cell membrane is a semi-permeable membrane and it allows water to move in and out of the cell through osmosis .
- Plants also take up water from the soil through Osmosis wherein the root has lesser water and the soil has more (due to watering).
- Thus the water moves from the soil into the roots .
