How are fats digested in our bodies? Where does this process take place?

Answer

  • The majority of Fats are digested in the small intestine of our bodies.
  • Breakdown of fats is done with the help of an enzyme called lipase that is secreted from the pancreas.
  • Lipase causes emulsification of fats , meaning that fats are broken down to give fatty acids and glycerol , which are much smaller in size and water soluble.
  • These get absorbed by the wall of the small intestine easily and then get transported to other parts of the body through the bloodstream.
