Question 11 (Page 228) Cutting down trees on a large scale impacts the quality of the soil. Why do you think it is so?How cutting trees impacts soil quality: 1. Loss of soil binding: Tree roots hold soil firmly in place like underground net When trees cut, roots decay and soil becomes loose Without roots, soil easily washed away by rain or blown by wind which is called soil erosion 2. Nutrient depletion: In forests, fallen leaves decay and add nutrients back to soil This natural recycling enriches soil When trees cut, this nutrient recycling stops Soil becomes less fertile over time 3. Loss of moisture: Trees provide shade keeping soil moist and help water seep into ground Without tree cover, direct sunlight dries soil quickly and soil becomes dry and hard
