What are Resources? Anything which is useful and has value is called Resource They may be provided by Nature Or Humans Natural Resources Man - Made Resources Difference between:- Natural Resources Human - Made Resources Resources provided by nature are called natural resources. Example - We get heat and light from the Sun, water from rivers, food from plants and animals, etc. Resources created by humans are called human - made resources. Example - Electric bulbs, furniture, solar panels, bicycles, etc. Activity 11.6 Make a list of activities you do in your daily life and write down the natural resources used directly or indirectly for each activity. In Table 11.4, some items are already filled in. Using them as a guide, fill the remaining blank rows Table 11.4: Natural resources used Activity Natural resource Washing clothes Water Making clay toys Soil, Water, Air, Sunlight Collecting firewood Forest (Wood from Trees) Making kites Trees(Paper), Plants(Bamboo), Petroleum(String) Having breakfast Plants(Wheat, Vegetables), Animals(Milk, Eggs), Water Building House Rocks, Soil, Wood, MineralsNatural Resources can also be Renewable and Non - Renewable Renewable Resources - Resources that get renewed, replenished or restored by natural processes within a reasonable period are called renewable resources. Example - Air, water and forest. Non - Renewable Resources - Resources that are in limited quantities and do not get replenished within a reasonable period are called non-renewable resources. Example - Minerals, soil, rocks, coal, petroleum and natural gas. Resources Provided by Nature Provided by Humans Natural Resources Man - Made Resources Can be replenished within a reasonable period Do not get replenished within a reasonable period Example - Electric bulbs, furniture, solar panels, etc. Renewable Resources Non - Renewable Resources Example - Air, water, forest, etc. Example - Minerals, coal, natural gas, etc. Are Fossil Fuels renewable or Non - renewable Resources?Non - Renewable resources Explanation Fossil fuels take millions of years to form and they are found in limited quantities. Fossil Fuels do not get replenished within a reasonable period of time. So, fossil fuels are non - renewable resources. In Between Questions Can you list some alternatives for reducing air pollution?Alternatives for reducing air pollution: Use electric vehicles instead of petrol/diesel vehicles Walk or cycle for short distances Use solar energy instead of coal for electricity Plant more trees to absorb carbon dioxide Use CNG which is cleaner than petrol or diesel Carpool to reduce number of vehicles Regular maintenance of vehicles to reduce smoke Why should we conserve Natural Resources?Natural Resources are in limited quantity and also some of them are non - renewable . Therefore, we must conserve our natural resources and use them responsibly without wasting them. This way, we can continue to fulfill our present needs while also saving for the future, without harming the environment.
