Line of SymmetryIn our figure If we fold along the dotted line, One half covers the other half completely Thus, we say that the figure is symmetrical And the two halves are called mirror halves But if we cut from somewhere else Then figure is not symmetrical This line from where figure is symmetrical is called line symmetry Checking line of symmetry using mirror halves For other figures, Our line of symmetry is We can also draw figure if line of symmetry is given Suppose we have figure To complete the figure, assume that line of symmetry is like a mirror Distance of point from mirror will be same on right side as well. Like suppose the eye, the end point of the smile Let’s answer some questions Is this figure symmetrical? If we fold the blue triangle along the dotted line, "one half of the triangle covers the other half completely". These are called mirror halves. ∴ The figure it symmetrical Is this figure symmetrical? If we fold the puzzle along its dotted line, "the left half does not exactly fit over the right half” ∴ The figure is not symmetrical
