When an object is said to be in motion? An object is said to be in motion if its position changes with respect to the reference point with time Fixed Point / Reference Point Moving Object Here, the batsman is changing its position with respect to the reference point (Crease) with time So, the batsman is said to be in motion When an object is said to be in motion? Fixed Point / Reference Point Moving Object Here, Athlete is changing its position with respect to the reference point (take - off board) with time So, Athlete is said to be in motion Table 5.3 Table 1: Table 5.3: Observing things around you \captionsetup{labelformat=empty} Objects in motion Justification Objects at rest Justification Cow grazing in the field The cow changes its position while moving and eating grass Tree It remains fixed at one place and does not change its position Car on the road The car moves from one place to another Building It stays in the same place and does not move Bird flying in the sky The bird moves from one point to another in the air Bench The bench stays in one location hild running in he playground The child's position changes with time Electric pole It is fixed in the ground and does not move Flowing River The water keeps moving from one place to another Mountain It remains stationary in one position Ants on the floor They keep moving from one place to another Playground It does not change its positionDifferent Types of Motion Linear Motion Circular Motion Oscillatory Motion Linear Motion When an object moves along a straight line, its motion is called linear motion Circular Motion When an object moves along a circular path, its motion is called circular motion Oscillatory Motion When an object moves to and fro about some fixed position, its motion is called oscillatory motion Table 5.4 Object Linear motion Circular motion Oscillatory motion Swing Moving to and fro Slide Moving in a straight line downwards Merry-goround Moving round and round See - Saw Moving up and down Skipping Rope Moving round in a circle Monkey Bars Moving in a straight line forward
