What are Adaptations ? The special features that enable plants and animals to survive in a particular region are called Adaptations Example 1 – Mountain Goat It has fury coat which helps them to survive the cold winters of Mountains Example 2 – Cactus in Desert Area This helps them in storing water and also help them to tolerate the hot conditions in these places. Example 3 – Deodhar Tree in HimalayasThey have Conical shape and sloping branches This helps them to let the snow slide off easily Plants and Animals who can make Different Adaptations in Different Areas Example 1 Camel in Hot Desert Area of Rajasthan It has 1 hump each that enables them to store food which helps them to survive during the scarcity of food Plants and Animals who can make Different Adaptations in Different Areas It has long legs with wide hooves which helps them to walk on the sandy desert without sinking into the sand Example 2 Camel in Cold Desert Area of Ladakh It has 2 humps which shrink in late winters because there is not much food available in the cold desert and these humps helps them to use food stored in their humps during that time It has long hairs from head to neck which helps them to survive the cold winters of Ladakh It has short legs which helps them to walk easily in mountainous regions Comparison Camel in Cold Desert Area Camel in Hot Desert Area It has 1 hump It has long legs with wide hooves It has 2 hump It has short legs with hooves This is Adaptation done by camel to survive in different area Plants and Animals who can make Different Adaptations in Different Areas Example 1 Rhododendrons in Nilgiris They have short height and small leaves to survive through the heavy winds on mountain tops Plants and Animals who can make Different Adaptations in Different Areas Example 2 Rhododendrons in Sikkim They are taller than Rhododendrons in Nilgiris Comparison Rhododendrons in Nilgiris They have short height and small leaves Rhododendrons in Sikkim They have taller height This is Adaptation done by Rhododendrons to survive in different area
