Subtracting Fractions with different denominatorsLetβs take an example Subtract π/π & π/π 1/2 β 1/5 We use two methods to solve this Method 1 1/2 β 1/5 = (1 Γ 5 β 1 Γ 2)/(2 Γ 5) = (5 β 2)/6 = π/ππ Method 2 1/2 β 1/5 Making denominators same. Common denominator. = LCM of 2 & 5 = 2 Γ 5 = 10 β΄ 1/2 1/5 Thus, 1/2 β 1/5 = 5/10 β 2/10 = (5 β 2)/10 = π/ππ We will be using Method 1 mostly to add or subtract fractions
