Subtracting Fractions with different denominatorsLet’s take an example Subtract 𝟏/𝟐 & 𝟏/πŸ“ 1/2 βˆ’ 1/5 We use two methods to solve this Method 1 1/2 βˆ’ 1/5 = (1 Γ— 5 βˆ’ 1 Γ— 2)/(2 Γ— 5) = (5 βˆ’ 2)/6 = πŸ‘/𝟏𝟎 Method 2 1/2 βˆ’ 1/5 Making denominators same. Common denominator. = LCM of 2 & 5 = 2 Γ— 5 = 10 ∴ 1/2 1/5 Thus, 1/2 βˆ’ 1/5 = 5/10 βˆ’ 2/10 = (5 βˆ’ 2)/10 = πŸ‘/𝟏𝟎 We will be using Method 1 mostly to add or subtract fractions
