Question 2(a) – Page 174 Write the following fractions in ascending order. (a) 7/10, 11/15 , 2/5So, to find common denominator of these fractions We need to find LCM Common denominator = LCM of 10, 15, 5 = 2 × 3 × 5 = 30 Now, making denominator 30 of all these fractions 𝟕/𝟏𝟎=𝟕/𝟏𝟎 ×𝟑/𝟑 =𝟐𝟏/𝟑𝟎 𝟏𝟏/𝟏𝟓=𝟏𝟏/𝟏𝟓 ×𝟐/𝟐 =𝟐𝟐/𝟑𝟎 𝟐/𝟓=𝟐/𝟓 ×𝟔/𝟔 =𝟏𝟐/𝟑𝟎 Writing in ascending order 𝟏𝟐/𝟑𝟎< 𝟐𝟏/𝟑𝟎< 𝟐𝟐/𝟑𝟎 Or we can write 𝟐/𝟓<𝟕/𝟏𝟎<𝟏𝟏/𝟏𝟓 Question 2(b) – Page 174 Write the following fractions in ascending order. (b) 19/24, 5/6 , 7/12So, to find common denominator of these fractions We need to find LCM Common denominator = LCM of 24, 6, 12 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 = 24 Now, making denominator 24 of all these fractions 𝟏𝟗/𝟐𝟒 𝟓/𝟔=𝟓/𝟔 ×𝟒/𝟒 =𝟐𝟎/𝟐𝟒 𝟕/𝟏𝟐=𝟕/𝟏𝟐 ×𝟐/𝟐 =𝟏𝟒/𝟐𝟒 Writing in ascending order 𝟏𝟒/𝟐𝟒< 𝟏𝟗/𝟐𝟒< 𝟐𝟎/𝟐𝟒 Or we can write 𝟕/𝟏𝟐<𝟏𝟗/𝟐𝟒<𝟓/𝟔
