Algebra Suppose we want to solve βŽ• βˆ’ 3 = 5 We have to find the missing number In algebra, We don’t write boxes We write letters, like π‘₯ π‘₯ βˆ’ 3 = 5 It has a variable βˆ’ x But, why write π‘₯? Why not boxes ? Writing x is easier to write than βŽ• if there are two boxes, now do you tell which box is which ? Variables are also called letter-numbers in this chapter What are algebraic expressions? Expression does not have an = sign 9 βˆ’ 8 is an expression 2x + 3 is an expression 3x βˆ’ 9 is an expression 4x +5 = 10 is not an expression 4x +5 = 10 has an = Sign So, it is not an expression, It is an equation In this chapter, we will study algebraic expressions, and equations
