Exact and Approximate Values When to Use What? Bill payment, marks, number of students → Use Exact News reports, population, rough distance → Use Approximate Think… You invite exactly 7 people to your birthday party. You tell your friend, “About 10 people are coming.” Both are valid, but you’re using one to be accurate and the other to be easier to say. Exact Numbers These are precise, counted, or measured values. They are totally accurate. Approximate Numbers These are rounded values — used when we want a quick idea instead of the full exact number.
