Why can a pace or a footstep not be used as a standard unit of length?

Answer:

We cannot use pace or a footstep as a standard unit of length:

  • The pace or a footstep of two people may or may not be of the same length , hence the length measured by two people using their footstop may not be the same.
  • Since the pace or a footstep is not a constant quantity, it can not be used as a standard unit of length.
