In an experiment 4.5 kg of a fuel was completely burnt. The heat produced was measured to be 180,000 kJ. Calculate the calorific value of the fuel.

 

Answer

Calorific value is calcualted as

Calorific Value = Heat / KG

 

Heat produced on burning 4.5 kg of fuel is 180000

 

Therefore,

Heat produced by 1 kg of fuel is  = 180,000 / 4.5 = 40000

 

Hence the calorific value of fuel is 40000 kJ/kg
