Ex 13.2, 3 The following data gives the distribution of total monthly household expenditure of 200 families of a village. Find the modal monthly expenditure of the families. Also, find the mean monthly expenditure. Finding Mode Mode = l + (๐1 โ๐0)/(2๐1 โ๐0 โ๐2) ร h Modal class = Interval highest frequency = 1500 โ 2000 where l = lower limit of modal class h = class-interval f1 = frequency of the modal class f0 = frequency of class before modal class f2 = frequency of class after modal class Putting values in formula Mode = 1500 + (40 โ 24)/(2(40) โ 24 โ 33) ร 500 = 1500 + 16/(80 โ 57) ร 500 = 1500 + 16/23 ร 500 = 1500 + 347.826 = 1847.83 Therefore, Modal Monthly expenditure of families is Rs. 1847.83 Mean(๐ฅ ฬ ) = a + h ร (โโ๐๐๐๐)/(โโ๐๐) Mean(๐ฅ ฬ ) = a + h ร (โโ๐๐๐ข๐)/(โโ๐๐) Where a = assumed mean = 3250 h = Class interval = 500 โโ๐๐ = 200 โโ๐๐๐๐ = โ235 Putting values in Formula Mean(๐ฅ ฬ ) = 3250 + 500 ร (โ235)/200 Mean(๐ฅ ฬ ) = 3250 + 5 ร (โ235)/2 ๐ฅ ฬ = 3250 โ 587.2 ๐ฅ ฬ = 2662.5 Therefore, Mean expenditure is Rs. 2662.5
