Example 6 β ABC is right-angled at C. If AC = 5 cm and BC = 12 cm find the length of AB. Here, In right angled βABC, right angled at C, AB = ?, AC = 5 cm, BC = 12 cm By Pythagoras theorem, γπ΄π΅γ^2 = γπ΄πΆγ^2 + γπ΅πΆγ^2 γπ΄π΅γ^2 = γ(5)γ^2 + γ(12)γ^2 γπ΄π΅γ^2 = 25 + 144 γπ΄π΅γ^2= 169 γπ΄π΅γ^2 = γ(13)γ^2 Cancelling squares π΄π΅ = 13 cm Therefore, π¨π© = 13 cm
