The fertiliser is concentrated outside the cell .
The water inside the cell will move out due to osmosis . This will dry up the cell and cause plasmolysis .
On a hot day, a concentrated fertiliser containing nitrogen could also burn through the grass .
In such a case, we would wash the fertiliser down with lots of water .
