What are the functions of the stomata?

Stomata are small pores present on epidermal cells .

The main functions of stomata are:

  • Exchange of gases (respiration in plants) 
  • Transpiration (loss of water in the form of water vapour)

The pore called stomata is enclosed by two kidney-shaped cells called guard cells
