Select saturated hydrocarbons from the followings: C 3 H 6 , C 5 H 10 , C 4 H 10 , C 6 H 14 , C 2 H 4

Answer

Saturated hydrocarbons are those which do not have any double or triple bonds present between 2 carbon atoms.

  • C 3 H 6 has a general formula: C n H 2 n i.e. it belongs to the alkene family (containing double bonds). So, it is unsaturated.
  • C 5 H 10 has a general formula: C 2 H 2 n i.e. it belongs to the alkene family and is unsaturated.
  • C 4 H 10 has a general formula: C 2 H 2 n+2 i.e. it belongs to the alkane family (having no double and triple bonds and is therefore saturated.
  • C 6 H 14 has a general formula: C 2 H 2n +2 i.e it belongs to the alkane family and is saturated.
  • C 2 H 4 has a general formula: C n H 2n i.e. it belongs to the alkene family and s  unsaturated. I

So, the saturated hydrocarbons are C 4 H 10   and   C 6 H 14
