Name the substance which on treatment with chlorine yields bleaching powder.

 

Answer:

Bleaching powder is produced by passing chlorine gas over dry slaked lime (Ca(OH) 2 )

The chemical reaction is as follows;

 

Dry Slaked Lime + Chlorine Gas → Bleaching Powder + Water

Ca(OH) 2 + Cl 2 → CaOCl 2 + H 2 O
