What are Elements?

It is a substance which cannot be split into 2 or more simpler substances by chemical reactions

It is made up of only 1 type of atoms

 

Example

  • Cupper (Cu), Iron (Fe)

 

What are Compounds?

They are made up of more than 1 type of atoms

 

Example

  • Water (H 2 O) is made up of 2 Atoms of Hydrogen and 1 Atom of Oxygen
  • Carbon Dioxide(CO 2 ) is made up of 1 atom of Carbon and 2 atoms of Oxygen
