Example 2 (Page 15) Madhu and Madhav recently learnt about the importance of reading labels on processed food before purchase. They are at a shop to buy badam drink mix. They are looking at two products and wondering which has a larger share of badam. Can you figure it out? Which product uses a smaller proportion of food chemicals? To find which one has a larger share of Badam, We find Percentage of Badam in each packet And, we calculate it by Percentage of Badam = (π¨πππππ ππ π©ππ ππ)/(π»ππππ ππππππ) Γ 100 For DEF Brand It has 12g Badam powder, and total weight 150g Thus, Percentage of Badam = (π΄πππ’ππ‘ ππ π΅ππππ)/(πππ‘ππ π€πππβπ‘) Γ 100 = ππ/πππ Γ 100 = 12/3 Γ 2 = 4 Γ 2 = 8% For Zacni Brand It has 40g Badam powder, and total weight 400g Thus, Percentage of Badam = (π΄πππ’ππ‘ ππ π΅ππππ)/(πππ‘ππ π€πππβπ‘) Γ 100 = ππ/πππ Γ 100 = 1/10 Γ 100 = 10% Thus, Zacni brand has larger share of Badam Now, our question is Which product uses a smaller proportion of food chemicals? Finding percentage of food chemicals in each now Food Chemical - For DEF Brand It has 9g Food Chemical , and total weight 150g Thus, Percentage of Food Chemical = (π΄πππ’ππ‘ ππ πΉπππ πΆβππππππ)/(πππ‘ππ π€πππβπ‘) Γ 100 = π/πππ Γ 100 = 9/3 Γ 2 = 3 Γ 2 = 6% Food Chemical - For Zacni Brand It has 24g Food Chemical, and total weight 400g Thus, Percentage of Food Chemical = (π΄πππ’ππ‘ ππ πΉπππ πΆβππππππ)/(πππ‘ππ π€πππβπ‘) Γ 100 = ππ/πππ Γ 100 = 24/4 = 6% Thus, both brands have same proportion for Food chemicals Finally, it asks to fill the table Table
