Example 10 Solve π‘₯2 + π‘₯ + 1= 0 x2 + x + 1 = 0 The above equation is of the form ax2 + bx + c = 0 Where a = 1 , b = 1 , c = 1 Here, x = (βˆ’π‘ Β± √( 𝑏^2 βˆ’ 4π‘Žπ‘ ))/2π‘Ž Putting values of a , b and c π‘₯ = (βˆ’1 Β± √(1^2 βˆ’ 4 Γ— 1Γ—1))/(2 Γ— 1) = (βˆ’1Β± √(1βˆ’4))/2 = (βˆ’1 Β± √(βˆ’3))/2 = (βˆ’1 Β± √3 Γ— √(βˆ’1))/2 = (βˆ’1 Β± √3 𝑖)/2 Thus, π‘₯ = (βˆ’1 Β± √3 𝑖)/2
