Example 4 Check whether the pair of equations x + 3y = 6 and 2x – 3y= 12 is consistent. If so, solve them graphically. x + 3y = 6 2x – 3y = 12 a1 = 1 , b1 = 3 , c1 = –6 & a2 = 2 , b2 = –3 , c2 = –12 Since 𝑎1/𝑎2 ≠ 𝑏1/𝑏2 We have unique solution Therefore, our system is consistent. Now we solve our equations graphically Solving (1) x + 3y – 6 = 0 3y = 6 − x y = (6 − 𝑥)/3 Solving (2) 2x - 3y – 12 = 0 3y = 2x − 12 y = (2𝑥 −12)/3
