If x = √2 is a solution of x2 + kx - 4 = 0 , Find value of k
x2 + kx – 4 = 0
Since x = √2 is a solution, it will satisfy the equation
(√2)2 + k√2 – 4 = 0
2 + √2k – 4 = 0
√2k – 2 = 0
√2k = 2
k = 2/√2
k = 2/√2 × √2/√2
k = (2√2)/2
k = √2
